Looking for a new vehicle? One of the things you will want to consider is whether you are going to get a front-wheel-drive vehicle or go for a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. Both drive systems have their advantages and their disadvantages. Let’s take a look at both drive systems.
With the front-wheel-drive system, you have the transmission at the front wells along with the engine. This is great for climbing hills and getting some excellent grip and traction. The big downside to a front-wheel-drive system is that it is a pain to repair and maintain because of the location of the transmission.
A rear-wheel-drive system puts the transmission at the rear wheels. Besides giving you better weight distribution, you won’t get that "torque steer" and veers a vehicle left or right during acceleration. This is great for performance vehicles. The big disadvantage is that a rear-wheel-drive vehicle will have less backseat space because of the transmission tunnel.
