Salt can wreak havoc on your vehicle if it is allowed to linger on doors or other surfaces. Fortunately, there are steps that you can take to prevent it from eating away at paint, metal, or other materials.

Ideally, you will wash your car or truck at least once a month to get rid of salt or other grime that will accumulate on it. It may also be a good idea to apply a layer of wax that can protect the body of your car from harmful debris. It is important to note that you should never wash the underbody of the car when temperatures are below freezing.

Doing so could result in ice forming in the tailpipe, which could significantly reduce the car’s performance. Depending on how old the car is, you may be able to prevent corrosion by applying a new coat of paint.
